Translating the entire Bible, or even the entire New Testament, is an enormous task that takes years to accomplish. Meanwhile, especially in some tribes, the people are anxious to be able to read God’s word in their language as soon as possible.
Mr. Rikshaw has really enjoyed getting to know the leader of one translation team, a sharp, passionate young man who seems to work constantly to complete his task. His team recently finished “The Five T’s” of 1st and 2nd Thessalonians, 1st and 2nd Timothy, and Titus, and they published the translation in small, paperback books for the people to take home with them. A couple weeks ago some of the people celebrated this accomplishment in a ceremony we were able to attend. Most of the people in this language group still live in their homeland in the Sandbox Mountains, but there is a significant contingent that lives in the the Sandbox, mostly as a result of displacement from the recent war in the south, and this is where the celebration was held.
